yes,who is the guy you're talking about? The only QuadFX I know of is this:
The only reasons I have for having the sample libs. are:
1. arranging things/orchestrating
2. I play the clarinet, and sometimes it good to have something that can remind you of the tempo/way of playing a phrase
3. composition
Back to the sample libs.
GPO:
This is a collection of the classical orchestral instruments, but with some additional samples. It has only one velocity layer, meaning theres only one sample for all velocities. It's also not recorded chromatically and could have some more articulations. If you compare it to a lot of other sample libs., you will notice that it's old.
EWQL Symphonic Orchestra:
This collection comes in six versions. There is the Silver, Silver Pro XP, Gold, Gold Pro XP, Platinum and Platinum Pro XP. The Pro XP's are expansions of the original packages, so if you would like the Gold Pro XP, you would have to get the Gold too. In terms of quality, GPO and Silver can be matched. Neither is chromatically sampled. The Gold edition contains chromatically sampled 16 bit material, but only the "FAR" position, meaning the samples are rather reverb heavy. The Platinum edition contains 24 bit samples, and is the largest. The different editions also contains different amounts of articulations and instruments. Silver contains the least and Platinum with the Pro XP all, Gold Pro XP is somewhere in between. As for what is the best value, I would say the complete Gold package is the best.
Vienna (VSL):
This is the most expensive collection to own, but it's cut into different pieces. There's the Horizon collection for EXS, Gigastudo and Kontakt, the Pro and Orchestral cube collections for Gigastudio and possibly EXS too, and then there's the new stuff that comes with it's own sampler. The old stuff is discontinued and requires a sampler. In terms of quality, I would say that the pro collection is the best, but I only have the Horizon, Pro and Orchestral cube collection. If you can get it, Kontakt 2 + Opus 1 & 2 would be an advisable supplement to EWQL SO and GPO.
Then theres the smaller more specialized collections like the Westgate woodwind, Timpani and French Horn, Project SAM brass & percussion, Dan Dean woodwind & brass, BFD drums, EZ drummer, Best Service stuff, Ilio stuff, M-Audio stuff, MusicLab stuff, Native Instruments stuff, PMI stuff, Puremagnetik stuff, Prominy stuff, SampleTekk stuff, Sample Logic stuff, Scarbee stuff, Sonic Implants stuff, SonicCouture stuff, Vir2 stuff, Zero G stuff, AMG stuff, Big Fish Audio stuff, Bigga Giggas stuff, Bela D stuff, Digital Juice stuff, Discovery Firm stuff, Digital Vision stuff, Drumdrops stuff, Electronisounds stuff, EMU stuff (format), Ensoniq (format), IK Multimedia stuff, etc...
There's possibly thoudands to choose between.
By the way, I am no processor. I'm a student from Norway that's just arrived back home after a two week vacation in Thailand. It's freakin' FREEZING here!
