Currently there is an unverified report on the IGN Zelda forums that Nintendo of America, Inc., has contracted with a Washington based company that specializes in typesets and does graphics for corrugated boxes to help with the production of an upcoming Zelda Nintendo DS Lite unit.  According to this source, the following information was passed along to the company for an order:

NOA Part #/Rev: 0064815A
Desc: BOX, SYST GOLD W/ZELDA: HOUR USG
Qty: 75
NOA PO # 171625Date: 9/12/07

Now, the source clarified that the quantity was seventy-five units per box, not total.  Nintendo of America, Inc., stated that consumers could enter to win one of several limited edition gold Nintendo DS Lite units for a Phantom Hourglass contest, but Golin/Harris reps couldn't get a straight answer about what this unit would look like. Thus, if the source is correct, then this contract is for a mass production of these units, not a limited run for the contest.

Thanks to a photo from the Nintendo World Store event yesterday afternoon taken by the GoNintendo crew, we may have our first glimpse at the unit:

You can see it is the unit in the bottom left (the unit on the right is actually the Nintendo DS case that's part of a Nintendo Australia promotion right now.  We've been on Nintendo's case to spill the beans about this for about two weeks now, and we dispatched an e-mail earlier this weekend about the information revealed on the forums, so hopefully all of this will now force Nintendo to confirm the existance of the Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass Nintendo DS Lite bundle.  Stay tuned.
